General BMW E46 Information

When introduced in 1998 blah blah... :)

Sport Coupe

Sport is not actually a car itself but an options package including wider tires, sport seats, M Sport aerodynamic kit and Imola Red colour as possible option. Any Coupe could be ordered with Sport package.

All Coupes (except M3 and it's derivate CSL) received a facelift on 2003.

Information below is for 330Ci, Sport package is also available to all other models.

Unloaded weight: 1505 kg
Engine: 2979 cc inline 6
Power: 231 hp at 5900 rpm

Torque:

300 Nm at 3500

Top speed: 250 km/h (electronically limited)
Power to Weight ratio: 6.51 kg/hp
Tires: 225/40R18 - 245/40R18

Clubsport Coupe

Like Sport, Clubsport is not actually a car itself but an options package including even more wider tires, sport seats, Clubsport aerodynamic kit with GT rear wing and highly sought after Estoril Blue colour as possible option among few others. 20 kg of sound insulation is removed to improve sound of engine inside the car. Any six cylinder Coupe could be ordered with Clubsport package.

Unlike Porsche's Clubsport models, 3 series Clubsport Coupe isn't really technically any more sport than ordinary Sport Coupe. Suspension is identical as is engine. Nevertheless it is a highly attractive and desirable car!

Like other Coupes (except M3 and it's derivate CSL) Clubsport received a facelift on 2003.

Information below is for 330Ci.

Tires: 225/45R18 - 255/40R18

M3 GTR

M3 was used in US ALMS racing series (driven by Finn J J Lehto) where it's "small" inline 6 was struggling against competition. A new version with 4.0 liter V8 was developed and some road legal cars were made in 2002 (25 from what I have heard) to allow homologation. Price was as high as 250 000$, many times higher than ordinary M3 or even M3 CSL!

Unloaded weight: 1350 kg
Engine: 3997 cc V 8
Power: 350 hp at 7250 rpm

Torque:

365 Nm at 3500 rpm
Acceleration:

Tires: 225/40R19 - 255/35R19

M3 CSL

Perhaps the ultimate E46 M3, CSL was produced in 2003 in limited numbers (1500 worldwide I think). True to it's name (Coupe Sport Leicht, lightweight sport coupe) it incorporated lot's of carbon fibre to cut down weight. Also engine was tuned a bit to achieve slightly increased peak power. This car was available only on two colours, Carbon Black and Silver Grey. Silver Grey is available to non-M cars also, hmmm...

You don't have to be genius to figure out how desirable this car will be in future by collectors and enthusiasts in same manner as E9 CSL is now! That might take few years though, BMW produced few thousand of these.

Unloaded weight: 1385 kg
Engine: 3246 cc inline 6
Power: 360 hp at 7900 rpm

Torque:

370 Nm at 4900 rpm
Acceleration: 4.9 s 0-100 km/h
Top speed: 250 km/h (electronically limited)
Power to Weight ratio: 3.84 kg/hp
Tires: 235/35R19 - 265/30R19

Note black Clubsport'esque carbon fiber splitters on front spoiler...

Looks like this M3 CSL is stretching it's feet on Nurburgring...

Those wide and almost slick wheels must be "exciting" on wet road?

What's in store then?

As E46 is coming to end of it's life as production car, speculation of special models are strife. As in E36 life, CSL model has been introduced. There was also a GT model in europe which was based on 3.2l Evo.

Onwards to next page then.
